Sepsis Visions: Robots, Rooms, Machines & Ladies Underwear | By Matthew Laverty – Sepsis Survivor

Hi all, during my time with Sepsis when I was in ICU, I had many ‘experiences’ which I will try to explain – reality, memories, visions or dreams – you decide!

Dream, Vision or Altered Reality
The next dream I can remember was people around my bed and the lights being dimmed –  which I now take to be during the night. I remember doctors, (with I assume medical students), being observant of what was going on.

I also remember, or think I remember, the nursing staff rushing around. They appeared to be floating, like some kind of Android robots with their surgical gowns flowing behind them! I now suppose that this was them perhaps walking quite fast and the air being created by this was making their gowns flap behind them!

I then remember, or think I remember, being in my bedroom at my grandmothers house. It was such a tiny room, but it had all of this medical equipment fitted in there and yet there still seemed to be loads of space. I wondered how on-earth we got there by walking, as the nursing staff told me that we had – which again must’ve been part of the dream!

Then the next night I remember being in the current home I lived in – in my bedroom. Yet again with all this equipment and there still being all the space for these machines. We had walked some 60 miles overnight to get there. I was pushed in a bed, but all the nursing staff walked in single file to get there.

I also remember when we arrived, I started to pull at something elastic around my neck. I now realize I must’ve been pulling on the central lines or the tracheotomy – as by this point, they had cut an incision in my throat to insert a breathing machine through.

But more bizarrely, I remember that I was wearing ladies underwear and the elastic I was pulling on, was the neckband of some kind of basque garment!

Quite strange and funny really! Quite ridiculous!

Also quite funny was I now remember a particular nurse that kept wanting to get into my bed, but I kept telling her that Steph (my partner) would go mad if she found out haha!

Please please don’t think I’m some kind of cross-dresser either haha!
