Sepsis Visions: When Steph Wasn’t Steph | By Matthew Laverty – Sepsis Survivor
Hi all, during my time with Sepsis when I was in ICU, I had many ‘experiences’ which I will try to explain – reality, memories, visions or dreams – you decide!
Dream, Vision or Delirium
When I woke up in intensive care towards the end of the 18 days, I only kinda recognised some of the people around me.
I recognised my fiancé Stephanie – but not as ‘Steph’, as I have always called her.
She was holding my hand and I had to keep saying,
“Stephanie you are really nice, but if Steph catches you holding my hand she will be very angry…but if I tell you I love you will you take me home to Steph?”.
She kept tryng to help me understand that she was Steph.
I did apparently get quite annoyed at her, and kept asing questions that only Steph would know the answers to – like the places where items were in our home. When Steph would answer correctly, I would accuse her of being an imposter, and that she must have broken into our home!!!
Steph says that it was like dealing with someone with dementia!
